A URL shortener is a service that takes a long web address and makes it shorter and easier to share. If you’ve every used or seen bit.ly or tinyurl.com, you’ve used an URL shortener.

I had written an URL shortener several years ago, and remnants of it still exist under kcs.me. It worked ok, but it had some shortcomings, most importantly, you couldn’t create your own short names for the address and were stuck with random characters.

Since then, I have installed YOURLS, and open source URL shortener. To get started creating shorter urls, visit go.kcs.me/addurl.php. If you are not on the Kenton City Schools’ network, you will need to sign in.

Email me for the username and password.

Once you are signed in, you can enter the url and click Shorten to create a smaller address.

Optionally, you can give it a name and or a title. When done, you’ll have a nice short address that starts with go.kcs.me.

If you have any questions, let me know!
