In the beginning, there was the Google Drive app. It ran on your laptop or desktop, syncing your Google Drive files to a folder. For personal Google accounts, the Google Drive app was replaced with Google Drive Backup & Sync while Google Drive File Stream was used for corporate and education accounts.

Because Google is never satisfied with names, Google Drive File Stream has been replaced with Google Drive.  We’ve gone full circle. However, we’ve been having issues with machines not upgrading to the new Google Drive application because the old version of Google Drive was still on the machine. Confused? Well, today I made the changes that should fix this issue, but there will be edge cases where you will lose access to Google Drive on your computer. If this happens, please put in a help desk and we’ll get it fixed ASAP.

All of this Google Drive talk only affects the Google Drive application on your computer which gives you access to your Google Drive on your desktop. Nothing has changed with accessing Google Drive from the website at https://drive.google.com.

As always, let me know if you have any questions or issues!!
