There are several updates to the classroom and staff technology for the 2022-2023 school year.
Your files
Anything not saved to Google Drive will not be backed up and you have a high chance of losing those files. ANYTHING THAT YOU WANT TO SAVE NEEDS TO BE PLACED IN GOOGLE DRIVE!!
Desktop computers
The desktop computers in the classroom have been replaced, along with the monitors. The monitors have built in webcams along with speakers, although the speakers are nothing to get too excited about.
There is a wireless keyboard and mouse with each desktop, giving you more freedom in your classroom. The new version of macOS allows you to easily Airplay to the projector or TV in your classroom.
Each desktop is also paired with a document camera.
The tech department will also be providing PD on using Google Meet with the student laptops, allowing them to present to the projector or TV in your classroom wirelessly.
The end goal is that you’ll never have to plug/unplug any cord at any time to use the technology in your classroom.
New laptops
Teachers are getting new laptops as they complete the Google Classroom course. The current teacher laptops are getting new batteries and are being repurposed for use by support staff in the buildings.
Setting things up
The first time you sign into a laptop or desktop you will be presented with the default set up. You’ll be required to set up Chrome and syncing, along with Google Drive. The good news is you only have to do that once.
After your set up with Chrome sync and Google Drive, you’ll be able to access your bookmarks, passwords, tabs, and files from any device that you’re signed in to.
Introducing the Teacher Technical Manual
Over the last few years I’ve been working on the Teacher Technical Manual. It has gone through several variations, first starting as a series of Google Docs, then moving to a website before become what it is now, one Google Doc with everything you need to know about technology at Kenton City Schools.
It is not complete, but it is getting there. If there is a section you want added, please let me know!
